Financial Literacy Month 2024 - Money on Your Mind: Talk About It!

November is Financial Literacy Month in Canada, an annual initiative aimed at empowering Canadians with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to make informed financial decisions. Led by the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC), this month-long campaign enters its 14th year in 2024, continuing its mission to strengthen the financial literacy of Canadians. This year’s theme, “Money on your Mind. Talk about it!” highlights the importance of open financial conversations and encourages Canadians to break the stigma surrounding money talk.

This year, the FCAC is encouraging Canadians to engage in conversations about money with the “Money on your Mind. Talk about it!” campaign. The initiative aims to reduce the stigma around money talk by prompting Canadians to share their experiences, ask questions, and take small steps to improve their financial well-being. Throughout November, Canadians are encouraged to “do one thing” to boost their financial confidence, whether by checking their credit score, starting a conversation with a friend about budgeting, or consulting a trusted financial professional. This simple yet powerful approach can build lifelong financial habits and foster a culture of openness around financial literacy.

    How You Can Participate

Getting involved in Financial Literacy Month is easy, and every effort counts! Here are some simple ways to join the campaign:

    • Do One Thing: Take a small action to improve your financial literacy. This could be as simple as reviewing your monthly budget, checking your credit score, or seeking guidance from a financial expert.
    • Engage with the Community: Join the conversation on social media using #MoneyOnYourMind and #FLM2024. Share your thoughts, ask questions, and contribute to the collective effort to make money talk a normal part of everyday life.
    • Use FCAC Resources: Visit the Financial Literacy Month webpage for a range of helpful tools, tips, and educational materials. This includes a promotional toolkit featuring ready-to-use articles, digital images, and social media messages that you can share with others.
